Meet Elyra!

Life carved that into her slowly, and then all at once. She was married young to a soldier who was sent away during the brutal years of the Hundred Years’ War, a man who grounded her, a man who made her feel like she belonged somewhere in a world that never quite accepted her. When he died, the news came without comfort, without softness, just a final, hollow truth that left her completely alone. At the time, she was pregnant, holding onto the last piece of something good, something that could have changed the course of her life. When she lost the child not long after, in a home that had already begun to feel empty, something inside of Elyra didn’t just break—it hollowed out completely. Grief did not soften her. It stripped her of everything that tethered her to warmth, to hope, to humanity, and what filled that emptiness was something far darker than sorrow.

She withdrew from the village entirely, retreating into a decaying cottage deep within the Blackmere woods, and that is when the stories began to spread. Crops near her land would blacken overnight, as if something had reached into the roots and killed them from within. Those who mocked her or spoke her name with cruelty would fall ill within days, struck with violent fevers, confusion, and injuries that seemed to come from nowhere. What made Elyra truly terrifying was that she never tried to hide what she was doing. She wanted them to know it was her. She practiced a form of dark folk magick that had been twisted by grief, rage, and something ancient that she had learned to tap into. She bound curses into bone, whispered illness into the wind, and worked alongside dark entities not as tools, but as companions that answered her without hesitation.
